Akshay Kumar Film Bachchan Pandey Earns Rs 13.25 Cr On Day 1, Fails To Top Sooryavanshi Opener

If an Akshay Kumar film is released in theaters, it will inevitably attract the public. The mass star has been the beacon of hope after the pandemic, with his films Bell Bottom and Sooryavanshi bringing relief to theater owners. And now his latest release Bachchan Pandey has also continued the streak. Despite fewer than usual screen counts and fierce competition from Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files, the film managed to bang over Rs 13.25 crores on its opening day.

Bachchan Pandey collected INR 13.25 crore on day 1. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the major contributors were Mumbai and Gujarat. The numbers are good, mostly because there were only afternoon shows due to Holi, and fewer screens due to The Kashmir Files. The competition from Vivek Agnihotri’s film is also massive. Also, given the collections, the film should show an upward trend on Saturday and Sunday.

Bachchan Pandey also became the second best box office opener after the pandemic, just behind Sooryavanshi. Yes, Akshay Kumar rivals himself. But while Sooryavanshi managed a healthy INR of 26.29 crore on its opening day, Bachchan Pandey only managed to pocket about half of his collection. The film collected more than Kabir Khan’s ’83, which was released on Christmas, and Alia Bhatt’s star Gangubai Kathiawadi, which collected INR 12.64 crore and INR 10.50 crore respectively.

Bachchan Pandey is directed by Farhad Samji and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. It is a remake of the 2014 Tamil film, Jigarthanda. The film has Akshay Kumar playing a ruthless gangster, and also stars Kriti Sanon, who plays an aspiring filmmaker, and Jacqueline Fernandez, who plays Bachchan Pandey’s girlfriend. The film also stars Arshad Warsi, Pankaj Tripathi, Prateik Babbar, Abhimanyu Singh, Snehal Daabbi and Saharsh Kumar Shukla in key roles.
