Hyderabad: Emmy-winning actor Billy Porter steps behind the camera to make his directorial debut with “Anything’s Possible.” The upcoming film is a coming-of-age comedy-drama from John Hughes that revolves around the life of trans high schooler Kelsa (Eva Reign), who navigates with her first boyfriend, Khal (Abubakr Ali), the friendship and family life with his single mother (Reneìe Elise Goldsberry).
Speaking about the impact the film has had on his life, Billy Porter said, “I was so moved by the story, the uniqueness of the storytelling and what it stood for. It was perfect for everything I am and mean as an artist. I was truly blessed with this one. I had everyone I wanted on the team, and I think it shows in the product. No one will come to save you except yourself. We have to do it ourselves. Our hope, our light must come from within. Once we do, nothing can stop us. And when dreams come true, you jump on them.
Along with celebrating the premiere of “Anything’s Possible” at Outfest, Billy Porter also received the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award, honoring his groundbreaking contributions to LGBTQ+ activism and art. “It’s come full circle for me,” he says of the award.
“Twenty-two years ago was the first and last time I was at Outfest, with Greg Berlanti’s The Broken Hearts Club, and that’s when the dream came to me. to be a filmmaker myself. I was just a little musical theater baby, [and] Here I am 22 years later with all the dreams coming true, and it’s just magical. I’m grateful to have that kind of voice,” he adds.
