Bishop Amat High School in La Puente celebrated the completion of its Monsignor Aidan M. Carroll Performing Arts Center on Wednesday evening with a ribbon-cutting and blessing ceremony by the Most Reverend David G. O’Connell, Episcopal Vicar of the pastoral region of San Gabriel.

The installation cost $15 million. It includes a state-of-the-art theater, rehearsal rooms, backstage and conference space.

The project was launched in October 2019.

“The Bishop Amat community is thrilled to open the Monsignor Aidan M. Carroll Performing Arts Center,” Gabriel Escovar, director of Bishop Amat, said in a statement. “Our performers, singers, musicians and dancers now have a venue that will showcase and match their many talents.

“Bishop Amat’s tradition as a leader in Catholic education in the San Gabriel Valley continues to grow and positively impact the lives of young people.”

The John & Dorothy Shea Foundation contributed $4.5 million to the project, which also received a $1.7 million bridging loan from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Hundreds of others – including Bishop Amat’s family, faculty and friends – contributed to the enterprise.

The center will open its spring season with The Little Mermaid on April 1 and 2 and April 8 and 9. Tickets for the public will be available through Eventbrite.
