WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts will present this year’s spring production, “Our Leading Lady” by Charles Busch.

CFCC students will take the stage at the Wilson Center Studio Theater April 21-23 and April 28-30 at 7:00 p.m.

“Working on ‘Our Leading Lady’ as an assistant director was very eye-opening for me. Not only did I have the opportunity to dip my toes into the director’s world, but I also learned a lot from this play,” shares CFCC theater student Emma Fullen. “I also learned about Lincoln’s assassination and how the actors who played for him were involved in his murder. I think it’s so interesting to see what was really going on behind the scenes.

“I have known for a long time that Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by an actor while watching a play. I never thought about the impact of the assassination on the actors who performed for him that night. “Added Jessica Gaffney, Chair of CFCC’s Theater Program. “This play forced me and my students to examine the lives of very real people performing on that unfortunate night at Ford’s Theatre.

Theater Program Chair Jessica Gaffney is leading the production of “Our Leading Lady,” serving as director and producer, with CCFC Theater Instructor Benjamin Weinert-Lishner handling set and production. lighting design.
