Blue Ridge Winds, formerly the Harper Concert Band, includes staff members Bill Witcher – conductor, Ed Whitener – associate conductor and communications manager, Jonathan Beal – administrator, and Karen Burton – school principal James C .Harper.

Blue Ridge Winds is a community group open to all band musicians. Adults of any age, high school students currently enrolled in their high school music program, and middle school students with a participating family member. The repertoire will include traditional music for concert band as well as contemporary pieces. Our mission is to honor our musical heritage by helping adults and students develop their instrumental musical abilities while moving toward the future of harmony music.

Rehearsals will take place on Mondays in the Hibriten Secondary School Music Room from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. An organizational meeting will take place on September 12 at 7:30 p.m. There will be no participation fee.

Several concerts will be presented each year, including some at the auditorium of Lenoir High School at the Uptown Lenoir Campus. Other locations will include local secondary schools. Guest chefs will be selected from members of Blue Ridge Winds or the host high school.
