Ranveer Singh is the latest actor to share his opinion on the ongoing debate between Bollywood and Southern movies. It all started when Kichcha Sudeep declared that Hindi was no longer our national language. Ajay Devgn disagreed with his statement and it sparked the highly controversial controversy. Now Jayeshbhai actor Jordaar has broken his silence and here’s what he has to say.
Over the past few years, many Southern films have been welcomed into mainstream showbiz. Movies like Jersey, Arjun Reddy among others have been remade in Hindi after their huge success in regional cinema. On the other hand, there have been pan-Indian releases like RRR, Pushpa and Beast and introductions to actors like Jr NTR, Allu Arjun and Thalapathy Vijay among others.
Breaking his silence on the language debate, Ranveer Singh told Bollywood Life: “I saw Pushpa, I don’t speak Telugu. I saw RRR, I don’t speak the language – but I was absolutely in awe of these films and the profession. I can only say that I appreciate the excellence in craftsmanship that the films have showcased and I’m very proud of how wonderfully they’ve done and how they’ve been accepted by different types of audiences . It makes me very, very proud because I’ve never watched movies like the others. Yeh toh sab apna hi hai, yaar, (these are all our films, my friend); Indian cinema ek hai (Indian cinema is one).
Ranveer Singh also added, “You see, I’m an artist and I don’t know much about movies because I’m not a trader or a producer. I am a paid professional, I receive money for presenting my art in front of the camera and my knowledge is limited to that. So only from my personal perspective can I say that these movies (Southern movies dubbed in Hindi and marketed as pan-Indian movies) are actually great movies as they are.
Professionally, Ranveer Singh will next be seen at Jayeshbhai Jordaar.
