The 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival kicked off on May 17 and will run until May 28. Over 600 films will be screened including Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Marathi, English and French films.

A total of 11 Indian celebrities from across the country, led by Union Minister Anurag Thakur, represented India at the festival. Actors Kamal Haasan, Madhavan, Parthiban, Deepika Padukone, Tamannaah, director Pa. Ranjith and composer AR Rahman will participate in the Cannes festival.

Speaking about the inaugural function, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that India was the first country to be honored during the 75th Cannes Film Festival. Deepika Padukone is part of the festival jury. She had previously attended the banquet. Her gold and black saree reflected Indian culture and caught everyone’s attention.

Deepika saree was designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, a famous fashion designer. The trailer for Kamal Haasan’s Vikram was released at the Cannes International Film Festival.

The Cannes Film Festival special mention was Tom Cruise, who is being hailed as the last superhero, considering he is 59 years old. Top Gun Heroes: Maverick, Tom Cruise landed on the festival hall and 8 fighter jets flew overhead, expelling red and blue smoke to match the colors of the French flag.

The Hollywood hero explained why the film never made it to OTT platforms and was pushed back from 2019 to Wednesday night when a very excited audience gave a six-minute standing ovation.

Cruise opened up about how even as a kid he did the craziest things, like climbing the tallest tree, remembering to jump off rooftops with a bed sheet as a parachute and more. Now known as an ace pilot and famous for his stunts himself, Tom Cruise is hailed as one of Hollywood’s finest actors despite his age.
