INVERNESS, NS – The Inverness County Center for the Arts will host a film screening by an award-winning Nova Scotian artist.

Organizers said Monday that Dawn, Her Dad and the Tractor, written and directed by Shelley Thompson, will screen at the center Saturday and Sunday.

Screenings will begin at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. and will include a conversation with Thompson, known for her role as Barb Lahey in Trailer Park Boys.

The film follows Nova Scotia dairy farmer John Andrew, played by Rob Wells, who has just lost his wife Miranda to cancer.

When a young woman with a startling resemblance to Miranda appears on John’s porch, an odyssey to understanding begins. Her estranged son, Donald, is now named Dawn, and she has come home to mourn her mother and fulfill her promise to mend her relationship with her father.

The couple then begin to focus on fixing an old tractor for the Community Tractor Trials and John cheers Dawn on as she drives the newly repaired tractor at the event.

Dawn, Her Dad and the Tractor was one of 12 projects invited to the NY Writers Lab and one of 10 international screenplays invited to Cannes for the Breaking Through The Lens initiative in 2019.

The film is Thompson’s feature debut, and was filmed in Nova Scotia in the summer of 2020 and had its world premiere at the Inside Out Film Festival in Toronto in May 2021.
