“Many adults and children with autism, neurodiversity, developmental and/or cognitive disabilities are unable to attend live performances,” according to a press release from the Allegro Performing Arts Academy. “The need for these types of shows is in high demand as many families cannot experience the benefits of live performing arts together. We want to help provide that for our community and allow everyone to celebrate the holidays in a fun way. and festive.

This year’s holiday showcase is called ‘The Great Holiday Baking Championship’. It’s a script written especially for Allegro which plays on all popular reality TV shows. The Allegro Players theater group are the main characters taking the audience through the story while the dance performances support the story through song and movement.

Sensory modifications to the showcase will include:

Lower noise level in the audience; elimination of startling or loud sounds; the lights in the audience will be slightly raised; the audience is a “no hush” zone and there will also be a soothing zone in the lobby for those who need a break from the show.

“Allegro is proud to offer this type of show for the first time in 27 years and we plan to make it an integral part of our future holiday shows for years to come,” according to the press release.
