EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Plaza Classic Film Festival started on Thursday, which has been scaled back in recent years during the pandemic to accommodate Covid-19 restrictions. Even though the films were shown, the Community Foundation of El Paso felt they missed the connection the festival had with people in the community.

During Moreno’s speech, she spoke fondly of her time here in the border region and her fond memories of seeing the theater in the original plaza.
The festival will host a talk with Moreno on Friday showing the 2021 version of West Side Story and his role in it as well. Whoever will be hosting the talk tomorrow is excited to experience the new West Side story with fellow moviegoers.
Solis also says it’s important for new moviegoers to watch classic movies so they can enjoy the movies even more.
“It’s so important to recognize and appreciate the classic film. There’s so many bells and whistles you see in today’s film from CGI and it’s a way the classic film is meant to be seen on the big screen and for younger generations to see what filmmakers of the past were trying to achieve.”
