The film has been breaking box office records since its theatrical release in September. According to trade reports, Ponniyin Selvan is expected to join the Rs 450 crore club by the end of this week. Earlier, we reported that Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 might end its theatrical run earning Rs 500-550 crore worldwide.


Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 graced cinemas in five languages ​​on September 30. The historical drama became the first Tamil film to be released in IMAX.

Director Mani Ratnam has successfully completed two weeks in theaters and is still breaking records. The film is approaching the Rs 450 crore mark at the box office and is expected to surpass it in a few days. Meanwhile, business analyst Ramesh Bala confirmed that Ponniyin Selvan grossed $6 million in the United States and became the first Tamil film to reach the milestone.

Not only in the United States, Singapore and Malaysia, Ponniyin Selvan is also doing exceptional business in France.


Ponniyin Selvan is a historical fiction based on the popular Tamil literary novel of the same name, written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi and Karthi play the main roles. Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sarathkumar and Parthiban were seen in supporting roles.
