Is it a bird or a plane? No, it’s RRR’s Rajamouli teaming up with Mahesh Babu. The maverick director and the ageless superstar are full of hits: RRR is a record hit while the new Telugu version of Mahesh Babu, Sarkaru Vaari Paata, is a super hit.

The Rajamouli-Mahesh Babu collaboration is one of the most anticipated films of the decade. It was supposed to start in July-August, but has now been pushed back to November-December, for good reason.

Says a source very close to the project, “Mahesh Babu wants his movie with Rajamouli to be as special as Baahubali and RRR, if not more. They collectively decided not to do costume drama. As Mahesh Babu is not comfortable with this genre. Also, after two back-to-back period-based projects, Rajamouli wants a break from the past.
The contemporary story that is said to be an adventure thriller would have rolled in the next few months. However, both Mahesh and Rajamouli decided to work on the script for a little longer.

“The film Rajamouli will make with Mahesh Babu is based on a great idea, never tried before. But Mahesh wants the script to be worked on and polished. Rajamouli is more than happy to oblige.
