Vu Donates $750,000 – It’s So Tampa

The University of Tampa and Vū announced Vū’s donation of virtual production equipment, valued at $750,000, to the University of Tampa. The economic impact of the film and television industries in the Tampa Bay area cannot be underestimated. Investing that kind of time, money, and equipment into the next generation of creators is a huge step toward improving Tampa’s footprint in entertainment.

Local hero and WWE Global Ambassador, Titus O’Neil has announced a huge investment in Vu. A similar implementation of digital media technology will soon be implemented at Sligh Middle School for students in Hillsborough County.

Vu is expanding rapidly. In January, the company announced that it would open a new office in Nashville. This studio features a 16,000 square foot LED stage with built-in tracking display. They are also working on launching a brand new office in Orlando in the near future.

Vu’s Don Elevates Tampa’s New Masters Program

The state-of-the-art virtual production technology giveaway includes a 30-by-14-foot Vū LED screen and 4K LED processor. Plus, Vū, which is North America’s fastest growing network of virtual production studios for the film, video and advertising industries, offers over 120 hours of on-stage time and training. at its flagship Tampa studio so that UT students can gain hands-on experience with technology on a larger scale.

The donation will be used primarily by UT’s Department of Film, Animation, and New Media (FMX) and the new Master of Arts in Social and Emerging Media graduate program, but will have applications in the campus-wide. Unlike conventional filmmaking, virtual production allows filmmakers to shoot photorealistic virtual environments in the studio instead of having to travel on location, saving time and money. Virtual production is not only a game-changer in the film and video industry, but will also impact many adjacent industries such as games, military and medical simulation.

Art and technology unite to have a major economic impact

David Gudelunas, UT Dean College of Arts and Lettersdescribed the partnership between UT and Vū as “really synergistic”.

“We are both committed to making Tampa a place where technology and art contribute to the economic and cultural vitality of the city,” he said. “The new LED volume on UT’s campus will provide an unprecedented opportunity for students in the College of Arts and Humanities to collaborate across disciplines, gain the most cutting-edge hands-on experience, and produce projects that break down barriers.”

A “Vū @ UT” unveiling and open house will be held on Thursday, April 14 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Virtual Production Studio (formerly the Black Box Theater) in the Cass Communication Building on campus.

Developing a New Talent Pool in the Tampa Bay Area

As part of its workforce development program, Vū has created a learning management system that will be used to track, train and empower students, leading to certification in virtual production.

In UT’s Film, Animation, and New Media department, students learn by doing and thinking with studio production classes and using state-of-the-art facilities, computer labs, digital cameras, and production suites. Students can obtain a BFA or BA in Film and Media Arts, a BFA in Animation, a BFA in New Media, or a minor. All programs are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

The MA in Social and Emerging Media is a recently launched graduate program that blends technology and creativity while preparing students to develop compelling media projects, craft sophisticated social media strategies, and interact effectively with audiences.
